Providence is a warm, chesed-oriented community, a wonderful place to raise a family, a town where individual and community growth is valued. The community is located on the East Side of Providence and in nearby Pawtucket, with beautiful tree-lined streets, pretty and well-kept homes with yards, where many children walk or ride their bikes to school. The Providence Hebrew Day School, at the center of the community, houses grades pre-K to 8, as well as a girls’ Beis Yaakov-type high school, and a mechanism kollel where some of the rebbeim from the school learn in the afternoon. The community caterer is also based in the building.
There are four Orthodox shuls in the community, one of which (Sha’arei Tefilla) is housed in the Day School, while the others (Mishkon Tfiloh, Beth Shalom, and Ohawe Shalom) are all within walking distance. There are multiple daily minyanim in town, along with shiurim for men, women, and children, and beis medrash open to the community.
Kosher food, including Cholov Yisroel dairy products, Bodek vegetables, packaged meat and chicken, and prepared foods from the caterer, are available at Bubbie’s Market, along with candy platters, snacks, and other items. Other supermarkets in the area carry many kosher items, as well. Brown University has a kosher dining room that is open to the public, and there are often ‘pop-up’ dinner opportunities available.
There is a beautiful, recently renovated mikveh in easy walking distance; there is also an eruv. The community is close to downtown Providence, with the State House, waterfront, parks, and other historical and cultural attractions. Within a short drive, there are many scenic hiking areas and parks, as well as historical sites. Newport, RI, home of Touro Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in the United States, is located approximately 45 minutes from Providence. Known as the City by the Sea, it boasts attractions such as Gilded Age mansions and a picturesque harbor.
Providence is an hour's drive or train ride from Boston, 2 hours from Hartford, and approximately 3 hours from New York.
