We offer a diverse Orthodox community at an affordable price in the heart of New York State’s capital. Our community is home to two excellent Jewish Day schools with smaller class sizes, a government-funded Universal Pre-K Jewish preschool, and NCSY. We have a vibrant and supportive Jewish Federation, Mikveh, Eruv, JCC, summer day camps, and community Beit Midrash programming. Our Vaad Hakashrut offers hashgacha for senior meal plans, a kosher caterer, a nursing home/ independent living center, and a butcher and bakery within a large supermarket.
Albany is consistently ranked as the best place to live in New York by US News and World Report. The cost of real estate is 50% or more lower than the NYC area. Median home prices are $250-290K and the median apartment rent is $1,500. We have a thriving regional economy with opportunities in state government, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy, nanotechnology, healthcare, and higher education. The Albany Jewish community has representation in every facet of our local economy, and we pride ourselves on being able to provide desirable career placement.
The quality of life is excellent in the Capital Region. We have easy access to four-season outdoor recreation including skiing and hiking, as well as concerts and theater at a fraction of the downstate price. When it’s time to get out of town for Shabbat, it is a two-hour drive to Rockland and about three hours to northern New Jersey, Boston, and Montreal. There are several direct trains a day to New York City, which takes less than three hours. Albany International Airport provides nonstop service to most major metro areas east of the Mississippi.
Incentives:
Our community will offer one year of free synagogue membership, reduced school tuition, and reduced JCC membership dues.
