We are a diverse Modern Orthodox community in the heart of New York State’s capital. Albany has a thriving regional economy along with a JCC, Mikveh, Vaad Hakashrut, Eruv, a kosher nursing home/ independent living center, and a kosher butcher and bakery within a large supermarket. There is a vibrant Jewish Federation, two affordable Jewish Day schools with smaller class sizes, preschools (one of which has a Hebrew immersion program), and NCSY.
Albany was recently ranked as the best place to live in New York by US News and World Report (2021). Median home prices are $278K and the average apartment rent is $1,658. The average walk to the Modern Orthodox synagogue is less than a mile. Job opportunities abound in New York State Government, tech/nano-tech, medical/dental, and in higher education. The average commute is 23 minutes by car. Albany is a three hour drive or Amtrak train ride to New York City, and is also a short drive to Rockland, northern New Jersey, and Boston. Albany International Airport provides nonstop service to Chicago, Washington, and South Florida.
The region boasts four-season outdoor recreation including nearby skiing and hiking, as well as concerts and theatre at a fraction of the downstate price.
