About This Community

West Orange is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant community in Northern Central New Jersey 15 miles from Manhattan, with easy access via bus, train, and PATH with jitney service for nearby NJ Transit stations.

The housing market offers a wide range of possibilities, with affordable housing within walking distance to shuls, such as Congregation AABJ&D and Ohr Torah, which are the 2 largest Orthodox synagogues, as well as Chabad, and others. The community offers multiple daily minyanim, educational programming, and Torah learning, as well as social activities for youth, teens, and adults. AABJ&D also has a vibrant and growing Sephardic community!

Many of the community’s children attend Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, the Jewish Educational Center (JEC), and other Central and Northern New Jersey High Schools, with daycare options and the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School, housed at Congregation AABJ&D.

The New Family Incentive program offers families who move to West Orange, join one of its shuls, and send their children to one of these yeshivas financial incentives amounting to over $50,000.

West Orange offers many attractions such as the South Mountain Recreation Complex which includes a skating rink, The Turtle Back Zoo, Safari Mini Golf, a beautiful walking trail, boating, and Pirate Park. The AMC Dine-In Theater, OSPAC outdoor amphitheater, township pool complex, hiking trails, and the Thomas Edison National Historic Park and Museum offer large-scale entertainment close to home.
